Therapeutic Touch®
Therapeutic Touch® is a research-based therapy, developed in 1972 by Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN, Professor Emerita New York University and Dora Kunz, a natural healer. Therapeutic Touch is a non-invasive therapy generally practiced by nurses, healthcare professionals and lay persons. It is taught and practiced in colleges, universities, and medical centers worldwide. Thousands of cases support the effectiveness of Therapeutic Touch® as an integrative complementary therapy in treating individuals with conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, headaches, high blood pressure, side effects of chemotherapy, cancer, diseases of the immune system, chronic fatigue, pre and post-surgery, depression, anxiety, stress, PTSD, etc. Therapeutic Touch® is generally practiced with the client fully clothed. Therapeutic Touch® (TT) is a gentle yet powerful intervention used to stimulate the body’s own natural healing ability. Based on compassion, TT is a contemporary interpretation of several ancient healing traditions. TT is a non-invasive form of treatment of numerous conditions, as well as being a modality for maintaining wellness.
TT has been known to:
- Stimulate the body’s own natural healing ability
- Restore balance and integrity of the body, mind, emotion and spirit
- Reduce stress and anxiety
- Relieve pain
- Heighten one’s sense of comfort and well-being
- Promote comfort in the presence of acute, chronic or terminal illness
