Meditation is a formal mindfulness practice. Meditation is a technique used to train the mind, very similar to the way that exercise is a technique used to train the body. In training the mind, one begins to understand it and learns how to transform the mind from negative to positive, from disturbed to peaceful, from unhappy to happy. Overcoming negative minds and cultivating constructive thoughts is the purpose of meditation taught at Vibrant Lives. This may be a profound spiritual practice.

Meditation, in various forms, is integrated into all services at Vibrant Lives; it is a piece of every yoga practice and a component of professional counseling.

Meditation has been found to enhance health by increasing immune function, decreasing pain and decreasing inflammation at a cellular level. It has also been proven to boost happiness by increasing positive emotion, decreasing depressive symptoms, decreasing anxiety and decreasing stress in general. It also increases emotional intelligence and makes individuals more compassionate towards themselves and others. Moreover, meditation has been found to improve emotional regulation and the ability to self reflect. It increases focus and creativity and enhances memory. Meditation literally changes the brain; the volume of grey matter is increased, as is cortical thickness.

Join us for an ongoing weekly mindfulness meditation group. No experience necessary, open to all levels. Meditation begins at 6:00 on Thursday. Please feel free to bring your own cushion or zafu. Please note that for now, due to COVID, meditation is sometimes outside and at other times, on Zoom. Please text Melainya or watch our facebook page to find out the location each week. Thank you!
